A Reason to Smile

A Reason to Smile

This picture captured Bowen loving on his sister, because ... that's what he does. He treasures her and is her "tector." I love this photo, because it shows how love comes with sincere smiles and the pleasure of being together.
The world (and many Christians) seems to know only the picture of a stern, angry God, a God who tries to find fault and looks for the opportunity to take a giant thumb to squish someone like a bug. But read how the prophet Zephaniah describes Him:
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
The word translated "rejoice" in this verse is a joy that expresses itself in the gestures of the body. It means, literally, to spin around. In other words, God dances over us with singing! His love for us is so full that, at times, it must be expressed physically. He longs to wrap His big arms around each of us and smile.
Our God isn't a stern, grumpy curmudgeon at all! He loves us and cares about us … and sometimes He even spins around with joy over us. We're usually the ones who are the stern, grumpy curmudgeons. We're the ones too inhibited, too proud, to demonstrate our adoration of the Lord. We’re the ones “thinking about” our praise, but hesitant to display it.

Do you need a reason to smile today? Get a mental picture of this. God is never inhibited. He is never too proud to dance joyfully over you. That should put a smile on your face (and it may even make you spin around).
